Policies

  • To conform National Flagged Ships to Safety standard, Safe practices and standard of competence required of its marine personnel.
  • To promote development of human resources, man-power planning and optimum utilization of such man-power in the maritime sector.
  • To Improve the safety record of Myanmar registered vessels.
  • To improve specific obligation to save lives in distress at sea and protection of the marine environment.

The Department of Marine Administration was established since 1930 before the World War II and called “Principal Port Officer”. During the pre-war period, it was known as “Nautical Adviser and Principal Port Officer”. In 1956 it was transformed into Mercantile Marine Department. It was reorganized and renamed as “Department of Marine Administration” on 16th May 1972.
